Meet Case Manager
Heather Sutcliffe

"Older people appreciate the smallest things. I love how easily they're pleased."
Heather has always enjoyed working with the elderly. Her academic focus was on geriatric psychology, and she interned in nursing homes and was a home health aide during school vacations. She knows that her clients want honest, reliable, compassionate people in their home, and she's found them at Golden Care. "We have some of the most caring men and women here. They have a wonderful outlook on life."
She, too, is empathetic with the feelings of family members. "I do as much as I can to help," Heather says with a sincere smile. "After all, if the clients were my parents, I would want someone to be there for them."

Meet Home Health Aide
Alberga Walsh

"I just love to care for my patients."
Alberga was raised in Jamaica, the fifth child in a family of six. She came to Golden Care almost fifteen years ago after working in a nursing home and she's been with the agency ever since. In that span of time, she's had only 3 assignments, lasting 5, 7 and 3 years - a testimony to the quality of her caretaking and her warm personality. "I get to love my patients so much," Alberga says. "They're like my own family." She adds, "I try to make them laugh and not feel sorry for themselves." She remembers that one of her patients told her, "Alberga when you arrive, you make my house light up."

Meet Home Health Care Aide Elizabeth Charles

"My patient said she missed me every morning when I walked in." Elizabeth Charles' mother was a good samaritan in her village in Aruba. Her daughter has followed in her mother's footsteps. Elizabeth started caring for others when she was 12 or 13 and now, at mid-life, she's still at it. Elizabeth reports, "I do things they way my clients want. I put the chair back in the place where they had it, make the bed their favorite way, put important things where they can reach them. This way, patients are more confident….happier. They feel I respect them." "Before I leave in the evening, I make sure they have exactly what they need." She adds definitively, "I can't walk out the door unless I know everything is alright."

Meet Home Health Care Aide Osa Kamp

"I can't always make my patients well again, but I can make them more comfortable." Osa Kamp has traveled the world on the way to becoming a Home Health Care Aide. Born here in the United States, she grew up in Vienna, lived for a short time in Finland, then emigrated to Canada and finally back to the US. After studying political science at Barnard College in New York City, Osa went to work for IBM, then founded her own software company in upstate New York.
When she was ready to leave the corporate world, she discovered her next calling was in social services, helping the elderly. It's been more than a decade since she joined Golden Care, and what a fulfilling time it has been. She has been a companion and housekeeper to several elderly people over the last ten years, while looking after several chronically ill members of her own family.
"The word, compassion, sums it up" says Osa. "When a loved one becomes elderly and falls ill, some people can't take it and turn away, but I see it as a natural part of life. All of us get here sooner or later. " "I like to help people," she continues. "When they smile, it makes me feel good."
